I am looking for a comparable software, to enable me to run Linux distributions, on my XP laptop.

Most major GNU/Linux distros come with a downloadable LiveCD which you can use to boot your laptop and run the distro without installation.
If you particularly want to run GNU/Linux distros within Windows XP then you can use virtualisation software such as qemu[1] or vmware[2].
