For the last year I have been tasked with rewriting large portions of our curriculum. I have accomplished doing so using OSS pretty much exclusively. The documents were written using OpenOffice writer. All images were edited, upsampled and converted using Gimp and ShowFoto. All presentations were written using OpenOffice Impress and then converted to PDF's using OpenOffices' built-in converter. Of particular note is that all the links that I embedded in the presentations work when the PDF's are opened in Adobe Reader. Also, when converting I had the option of telling the PDF's to open in full screen. Even simple animations work.
Of course I had to do all this on my laptop because the IT department would not allow installing OpenOffice on my work computer. They said OSS programs carry viruses! What a joke, considering my work XP box seem to contract a virus about every day.
