FOSDEM: Free and Open Source Developers European Meeting

For the seventh time now, the Université Libre de Bruxelles [1] in Brussels, Belgium, is hosting FOSDEM [2].

The impact of meetings like these on the free software community as awhole is huge. Apart from the obvious attractions of the meeting, such asthe ability to go to different talks and learn about exciting newthings related tofree software or to see demos at different stands, FOSDEM also allowsyou to meet people from all kinds of different backgrounds.

I'm the star at DEMO 07. Well, actually, you are!

So here I am at DEMO ’07 in Palm Desert, California. I expected to find sunshine in the desert, but so far it’s cloudy and could rain; but that will certainly not dampen my enthusiasm for this trade show. This year the theme of Demo 07 is the Age of Empowerment, according to DEMO CEO and organizer Chris Shipley, “Yes, that’s right. You have become incredibly powerful because of the technology you and others use everyday, and you may not even realize it”.

New Year’s cleaning - seven ways to start the new year right!

As we start a new year, it’s time to clear out last year’s baggage. Here are some tips on how to start the new year afresh.

1. Clean your computer desk

If you are like me, your computer desk is like a magnet for all sorts of stuff. Mugs, little pieces of note paper, receipts, books, DVDs, etc. Now is a time to clear all of the non-essentials off of your desk. You’ll be amazed at how much larger your desk will appear.

2. Clean out your bookmarks

Help Free Software Magazine - do you know Drupal and JQuery?

Thu, 2007-04-19 01:07 -- admin

Dear readers,

We are developing a new, funky Karma module for Drupal. We are doing it for Free Software Magazine, although we will release it under the GPL.

However, we need help. Tony, who is programming the module, doesn't know anything about Javascript and the module really needs to have some basic Ajax abilities. Basically, users need to be able to rate a comment by picking an item in a select box, and the server needs to receive the information without reloading the page.
